SEDRIS™ Technology Conference 2001
Plenary Session

"In closing, I want to leave one thought with you. I really enjoyed Ron's [Moore] presentation, and he brought up some very good discussions about when you have a monopoly system, why do you need a standard?
.
Well if you look at the human endeavors and throughout the history, in everything that has happened in the last several hundred years -- you can start with the Press capabilities, up to Pony Express, Telegraph, Telephone, Highway System, the Internet now, and everything else in between -- in my experience, and as history is the judge, in every opportunity, in every case, where humans have been involved, and two elements have been in existance -- one the need for sharing, and the second is alignment in business -- always, always, standards emerge.
.
Whether SEDRIS ends up being that particular standing in the community, history will judge that. But I believe we have outstanding technologies that will provide a variety of different benefits for many people in different sectors of Industry, Academia, and Government. And our goal certainly is to promote those things through providing good tools, good technologies, and education throughout the community so others can take advantage of that."
