The SEDRIS Data Representation Model
APPENDIX B - Constraints
Attribute Set Components

Definition

An <Attribute Set> may contain attribute objects used by <Geometry> and / or <Feature> instances. If it contains attribute objects that are used by <Geometry> and is referenced by a <Feature>, the <Geometry>-related attribute objects are ignored. The reverse is also true.

Rationale

This allows <Geometry> and <Feature> instances to use the same <Attribute Set>. This may be desirable if they share some of the same attribute objects; for example, if the <Geometry> is actually an alternate representation of the <Feature>.

Example

  1. A <Linear Feature> is associated with a <Union Of Primitive Geometry> that has been derived from it. Both reference the same <Attribute Set> that contains an <Inline Colour>, <Light Rendering Properties>, and <Browse Media>. The <Linear Feature> uses the <Inline Colour> and <Browse Media> instances, but ignores the <Light Rendering Properties>. The <Union Of Primitive Geometry> uses the <Inline Colour> and <Light Rendering Properties>, but ignores the <Browse Media>.
