Ionospheric Scintillation (IonScint)
Challenge: Realistically model ionospheric disturbances that cause rapid phase and amplitude fluctuations of satellite signals and degrade or disrupt satellite-based nav and comm systems
IonScint will provide dynamic scenarios to simulate scintillation impacts on theater combat operations instead of using climatology
- Quantitatively characterize scintillation structures
along geomagnetic equator
- Develop high spatial/temporal resolution structures
of ionospheric disturbances
- Merge newly created, high resolution structures with
existing global occurrences from WBMOD
- Develop computer efficient algorithms to generate
time-dependent, 3-D dynamic scenarios with user-
selectable impact intensity (weak, mod, strong)
