Where’s the Data?

• Generally, “in” legacy data coding standards

  • DMA FID codes (DFAD)
  • DMA Feature File codes (ITD)
  • DMA FAC-S (Digital Production System)

• Generally, mappings from these to FACC/SDCS are available

  • As spreadsheets
  • With provisos
  • Inexact, lossy

• Moving to the SDCS will be difficult, and imperfect, too

  • But the flexibility is potentially greater (and the scope …)
  • DIGEST can use some pieces (if we remain compatible)
  • SDTS and OGC use “profiles” to let communities specify domain-specific solutions -- like the M&S community …
  • JMCDM/UCDM are interested bystanders
    • We intend to be not inconsistent with their conceptual models
    • But our focus is necessarily at the logical level
