Data Models and Implementations of Data Models
Data models are built to map business concepts into conceptual, design, and finally implementation objects
Implementations may use a variety of technologies:
- Relational
- Object-based
- Application-specific (e.g., C4ISR, CGF, Visualization)
We will not address implementation issues here!
- However, implementation decisions do affect data interoperability / exchange

- Note that most business databases are relational
- And the real world is not
