Tutorial Introduction
DESCRIPTION - This tutorial will provide an overview of the fundamental issues in environmental data representation, generation, and interchange. Topics will include: background on how environmental databases are created; why database creation is expensive; the impact of networking; how environmental databases affect interoperability; real examples of the database building process; the critical issues in interchange; the need for SEDRIS; the SEDRIS approach; what SEDRIS is and is not; project status and who is involved; products and activities; an overview of the SEDRIS technology components; and much more. Demonstrations of selected SEDRIS technology tools and applications will be included.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND - Anyone who is interested in gaining a better appreciation of environmental data generation and consumption issues, interested in better understanding the SEDRIS concepts, or anyone new to SEDRIS. Project managers, policy and decision makers, systems engineers, and technology managers who are impacted by environmental data should attend.
