The Traditional Surveying Process
ERM position determination is closely related to surveying.
Surveying is a process used to estimate locations on the earth.
The ERM is needed to define a measurement reference baseline (distance, angle, elevation, surface normals, ...).
Due to the terrain surface on the earth these parameters cannot be measured directly.
Indirect measurements are used with the mathematical ERM model to estimate the reference parameters.
