<Reference Surface>

• Optional component of <Geometry Hierarchy>, <Feature Hierarchy>

• Any <Location 2Ds> in the aggregate, by definition, do not carry elevation information. Conceptually, a <Location 2D> describes a ray to the “surface of the earth”, where its intersection with that surface is its elevation.

• The <Reference Surface> explicitly defines the surface to be used in the determination of this elevation information.
