Notes:

• EU Labels are constructed based on a normalized expression of their symbol, as defined in ISO 31
  • Subsequently a standard set of abbreviations are applied.
  • A similar process occurs for the construction of all types of Labels

• The symbol expresses the quantity as a function of the SI base quantities.

• The definition, where the EU is not strictly related to the SI base quantities, includes the necessary information to “convert” a value expressed according to the EU into one consistent with SI
  • e.g., FEET to METRE

• Membership in a class of equivalent units called an EDCS Unit Equivalence Class (EQ) determines which quantities are commensurate.
