Distortion in Map Projection-based SRFs
Distortion is commonly measured in terms of length, area, angles and shape.
For conformal map projections, angles in the plane of the map projection are not distorted.
For map projections, it is not possible to simultaneously control all the distortion parameters.
Some map projections mitigate some subset of the distortion parameters – this has led to a proliferation of projections that are derived for different applications.
