Planned Mono-Static Active Sonar Addition Data Requirements
LS – Source Level of the Projector.
NTS – Target Strength: Intensity level of the returned signal relative to the incident intensity at 1 yd. A function of the target and the bearing if the incident energy. Characterizes the reflectivity of the target (Backscatter).
LR – Reverberation Level: Signal level from all other scatters which is received by the sensor with the target echo.
- Bottom Reverberation – depend on frequency, bottom type and bathymetry at the target. Requires a bottom type database (GFMPL) and bathymetry from CTDB.
- Surface Reverberation – depends on frequency and sea state. Sea state is computed as a function of wind speed.
- Volume Reverberation – modeled as a return from the Deep Scattering Layer. Requires Deep Scattering Layer Database.
