Class Name: Collision Volume

This DRM class is concrete and has no subclasses.

Definition

An instance of this DRM class is a <Volume> that encompasses part (possibly all) of the <Aggregate_Geometry> of which it is a component, and is used in collision detection.

  1. The cylinder that describes the gun tube of a weapon system.

  2. A perpendicular vector emanating from the bumper of a car is a <Collision Volume> of <Volume> "vector", and is used in computing intersection of the front of the car with other objects.

FAQs

May an <Aggregate Geometry> specify the same volume of space for both its <Bounding Volume> and its <Collision Volume>?

Yes.

If an <Aggregate Geometry> instance has multiple <Collision Volume> components, how are they to be interpreted?

The complete volume specified by the union of all the individual <Collision Volume> components is that which is used for collision detection. This capability is provided to allow <Collision Volume> information to be provided for complex shapes.
